What is Pheasants Forever all about?
Founded in 1982 in response to the continuing decline of the ring-necked pheasant populations, Pheasants Forever is dedicated to the protection and enhancement of pheasant and other wildlife populations through habitat improvement, public awareness and education, and land management policies that benefit private landowners and wildlife alike. In 20 years, Pheasants Forever has grown to more than 100,000 members and 600 chapters while spending more than $145 million on habitat projects encompassing more than 3 million acres in North America.
At the heart of Pheasants Forever is a unique grassroots system of fundraising and project development that allows members to see the direct result of their contribution. Virtually 100 percent of all the funds raised by the chapters, exclusive of membership fees, remain with the chapter. Those funds are expended on habitat projects, public awareness and education programs, and land management policy initiatives. In fact, 91 cents of every dollar raised by Pheasants Forever goes directly towards the PF mission, making Pheasants Forever the most efficient conservation organization in the nation.

Where can I find information on stocking pheasants?
In the past 50 years, conflicting views have fueled debate over the effectiveness of stocking pen-reared pheasants to increase wild pheasant populations. Most often, sportsmen have been on one side of this debate, wildlife biologists the other. This frustrates professional wildlife managers because stocking of pen-raised birds is not an efficient means to increase wild bird populations. Developing and enhancing habitat, on the other hand, has proven to help increase pheasant numbers.
By definition, "stocking" is the release of pen reared birds into habitat where wild birds already are present. "Introductions" or "transplants" are different. These refer to the release of birds into areas where birds are not generally present, using management that has been studied very thoroughly. Access is granted only to the Chapter Committee members, an email sent to the PF Webmaster to request the login ID and password.
No - The Habitat Cooperator signs mean that the landowner is working with Pheasants Forever to establish habitat. However, it does not mean that the land is open to public hunting. Always contact the landowner to ask permission to hunt on his/her land.

Please contact your local chapter president. Because of privacy concerns, we have chosen not to list their names on our web site. If you do not know the name of your chapter officer or the name of your local chapter, try our Find a Chapter page. You can also contact Pheasants Forever at 1(877) 773-2070 and we will put you in touch with the regional wildlife biologist in charge of your region or contact us using our online form.
In a perfect world, we'd love them to join both. However, most hunters and conservationists have more passion for one species than another. The great thing is that no matter whether they choose Pheasants Forever or Quail Forever, they can be assured that they're contributing to an organization that has a significant impact on local habitat and a strong voice at the national level.
Did Pheasants Forever pursue a merger with Quail Unlimited and why did that merger not occur?
When we made the decision to build on our success with pheasants by helping improve quail habitat, it was natural for us to first approach Quail Unlimited about joining forces. After a few discussions, both groups determined that it would be difficult to merge the two organizations based on the different operating models. That said, quail can use all the help they can get and we felt that it was best to continue to pursue our own efforts using the successful Pheasants Forever chapter empowerment and habitat improvement model.
